National Adoption Process

National adoption is the one that takes place within the national territory of El Salvador and can be requested by any person who meets the requirements established by law.

The application for national adoption can be submitted to the Adoption Office or the auxiliary departments of the Attorney General’s Office, and it must be legally qualified to determine if it meets the requirements for admissibility. The technical, social, and psychological studies should be conducted by the multidisciplinary team of the Adoption Office.

Requirements for the Process of National Adoption

  1. Recent birth certificate(s) of the applicant(s)
  2. Marriage certificate or declaration of cohabitation status, if applicable
  3. Recent medical certificate(s) regarding the health of the prospective adoptive parent(s)
  4. Clearance certificate from the National Civil Police
  5. Certificate of no criminal record
  6. Updated salary statement for employed individuals or a notarized affidavit indicating the source of income for self-employed individuals, or any other valid document verifying financial capacity
  7. Certified copy of the Identity Document (DUI), passport, or residency card, as applicable
  8. Birth certificate(s) of biological child(ren), if applicable
  9. Health certificate(s) of child(ren), if applicable
  10. Photographs of the applicant(s) and their immediate family, as well as the interior and exterior of the residence
